What is a ketubah?
A ketubah is a Jewish marriage contract that outlines the rights and responsibilities of the husband and wife. It is a traditional document and has been used for centuries. Written in Aramaic or Hebrew, the ketubah covers various aspects such as financial provisions, commitments to marital duties, and provisions for inheritance. It is signed by the couple, and witnesses, and is often displayed as a beautiful piece of artwork in the couple's home or at the wedding ceremony.
While traditional ketubot were often written in Hebrew and adorned with intricate artwork, modern versions can incorporate various languages and designs to reflect the couple's unique preferences. Additionally, some modern ketubot include additional clauses that address contemporary issues such as equality, love, and respect within the marriage.
